Birthday Haul!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASo recently it was my birthday, and I acquired some books from friends and family. I’m so so happy about all of them, and I know I’ll read them all with joy!

Also, as my birthday has come and gone, my book buying ban is no longer in existence!! I kinda failed three times, but that’s okay. I’ll still try and show restraint in what I buy though.

The first book I was given was this wonderful edition of Sherlock Holmes from a lovely friend! It’s got all the stories in there, all of which I grew up with and love. I’m rereading them now, and I have so so so much nostalgia attached to them – help!!

The second book I was given was the hardback of Throne of Glass, by Sarah J Maas. I’ve read it before, but I enjoyed it, and my little paperback version is puny in comparison to this gorgeous hardback! It was a complete surprise to be given this, but I’m really really glad I was 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy family knows how much I love Illuminae and Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, and so they kindly gave the books to me! I am so thankful because these are perhaps my favourite YA novels e v e r. They’re just so good! I’m making myself wait at least a month before I reread them (as I read them two months ago) but I am so so excited to do so! Eeeep I love these books.

A friend gave me a Dymocks voucher, and so when I went to the shops the other day I just popped into the bookshop to see what I could find. I came out with this book, Allegedly, which I have heard very very good things about – and this book, The Pearl Thief,  which I have also heard very very good things about. I’m very excited to read both of them!

Those are all the books I was given/bought for my birthday – and I’m very happy and thankful for all of them!

img_0581I try not to buy books too often, just because I’m trying to save that money ehe. But I do love getting new books, particularly ones that I haven’t read before!

Have you bought any new books recently?

Keep smiling!

Emm 🙂

Second Hand Book Haul!

P5151633.JPGSo I’ve got a mini little haul to show you all today!

Now, I am technically on a book buying ban, but a second hand sale happened semi-near-us and so I had to go and see what was there. I ended up buying four books, three music books, and a box set of limited edition Star Wars videos (episodes IV, V, & VI), all for $18.50! I think that’s worth it. *nods*

I’ll just show the books, and why I got them!

The first book I bought was Quidditch Through The Ages. My sister picked it up and put it back without realising what it was!! I stopped her as soon as I saw what happened, because I’ve been wanting to get this for ages! I can’t wait to start reading it.

Do you think it’s long enough to count as an entire book for my Goodreads reading challenge? I think it totally does.

The next book I got was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. We didn’t actually own this one, but now we do! We almost despaired of finding it, but my sister spotted it under a pile of picture books. Very thankful that we found it! It’s actually in surprisingly good condition – a hardback and a very early edition, yay!

We didn’t own this one, and I’m so glad I found it! Though it might not look it, it’s also in really good condition. The spine is completely intact which is really good for a second hand book!

Just a little bit happy about that 🙂

The last book I bought:

Before I fall, by Lauren Oliver. This is a book that I’ve heard a lot of contrasting things about and really want to try it for myself! The idea of it really intrigues me and so we’ll see what happens. Also I think a movie is coming out of this book soon? So maybe now is a good time to read it.

This was also a little bit of a spontaneous purchase – I saw it, I picked it up, I bought it. Ahh well, second hand book sales come but twice a year!

Well, that’s my book haul, and hopefully the last one until my birthday! I really am awful with this whole book ban thing – I’ve bought more books than ever. But it’s okay, because I know I’ll read them 🙂

Lots of love,

Emmeline 🙂

mini April Haul

Okay, have something to explain.

Do you remember how, ages ago, I wrote this post?

I basically promised I wouldn’t buy any books/borrow from the library till either my birthday, or until I’d read all the books in my shelf.

(this post could be renamed ‘me making excuses for myself’, whoop whoop)

So in both my March and April wrapups I admitted that I had borrowed from the library. Honestly I think not borrowing from the library was a silly goal to set myself, because (a) we go there all the time and (b) the library is basically my second home. Me not borrowing from the library is really an unrealistic goal, I’m afraid.

Here’s an overview of my shelves, and how much I’ve read in them:

This is the main shelf, which holds most of my books. The red dots symbolise any books I haven’t read. As you can see, I’m getting through quite a few, which I’m happy with!

At the moment, there are 17 books on this shelf which I have not yet cracked open. Exciting times!

This is the shelf which my sister and I have coined the “favourites shelf”. It holds all the favourite/aesthetically pleasing books, and as you can see there are 19 which I have still to read.

So as you can see, while I still have a bit to go, I’m slowly getting through it all. It helps that lots of the books in the shelves are actually my sister’s which I have absolutely no intention of reading.

So now the books I bought …

Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight, by Sarah J Maas.

These were 9 dollars each, and I couldn’t resist picking them up! They were the only books that I bought this month, and (hopefully) the only books I’m planning on buying until after my birthday.

My book buying ban is back in existence. My book borrowing ban is cancelled.

img_0581So essentially I *failed* the book buying ban, and am going to try again. So (hopefully) no more haul posts till my birthday!

What books did you buy this month?

Love, Emmeline 🙂
